Konkani Charistmatic Group

JIVITACHI ZOR - KONKANI CHARISMATIC PRAYER GROUP - MIRA ROAD

Jivitachi Zor, Konkani Charismatic Prayer Group, Mira Road, was formed in the month of May 1992. Seven members came together and formed the Konkani Charismatic Prayer Group, Jivitachi Zor. Bro Alwyn Quardras was the first leader of the group. There was constant intercession going on for the growth of the group. God was adding new and active members to the group. All the Parish priests and the spiritual directors of our parish encouraged our members to conduct various programmes, retreats, outreach and seminars. This increased the active participation of members. Nowadays there are intercessory group, service team, choir team and core team. On every Monday we meet to intercede and Tuesdays we meet for the choir and on Wednesdays we have our prayer meeting in the church after 6.30 pm mass. It is our humble request to all Konkani speaking people to come for the prayer meeting and be blessed. If you have any petitions, please inform us or call the core team members and will intercede for the same.

Hindi Charistmatic Group

HINDI CHARISMATIC PRAYER GROUP - MIRA ROAD

In 2005, the Hindi Charismatic Prayer Group was established. Our then leader was late Br. Rajan Fernandez. He founded the ‘KARUNA MINISTRIES’ Hindi Charismatic Prayer Group in our parish. We established the Intercession Ministry, Teaching Ministry, Service Ministry, Choir Ministry, Lector team, and Praise & Worship team inside the prayer group.

Every Monday at 6.30 p.m., Hindi Mass and Hindi Prayer service are held. The prayer service is also attended by people of other faiths.

We have our fellowship meeting and intercession every Wednesday evening after the 6.30 p.m. Mass. We also hold counselling and healing sessions in addition to our choir practice for the first Friday Hindi Marathi Retreat.

In 2010, our parish hosted a 3 day VIII National Charismatic Convention. God provided opportunities for us after the Convention, and our leader was motivated to host the First Friday Hindi Marathi retreat in our parish on the first Friday of each month from 9.30 am to 4 pm. This retreat is attended by people from all parts of Mumbai and from various religious backgrounds.

Our Parish holds RCIA sessions in Hindi every Saturday, and members of Karuna Ministries have been asked by the parish to teach the candidates who wish to learn more about Jesus.

For the benefit of our Ministry members, we arrange leadership development programme so that they will be devoted to the tasks assigned to them.

St. Elizabeth of the Trinity, Mira Road

St. Elizabeth of the Trinity OCDS community was established in 2014 by the then Spiritual Assistant, Fr. Lancy Mendonca (OCD). Since then, our members meet fortnightly for one and a half hours on Thursdays at 7:15 pm. Some of our members pray the Morning Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours along with the priests. Others are committed to praying the Morning and Evening Prayer as well as Night Prayer, if possible, along with 30 minutes of mental prayer, at their respective homes. We follow the Rule of St. Albert, the OCDS Constitutions, and the Provincial Statutes, which are used to help us transform into the people that God intends us to be. We strive to develop our spiritual life by fostering a life of prayer. Most of us have been attending the daily Mass and practicing devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She is our model of contemplative life. We emulate her in mental prayer and practice of the presence of God. We have been actively participating in the Community as well as personal Apostolate; attending one retreat per year and participating in the days of Recollection.

Aim: The Aim of a lector is to be instrumental in communicating the Word of God to the faithful present in the church during the Mass.

Objectives: The objective of the Lector Ministry is to proclaim the scripture readings and be a voice to God’s Living Word. The Ministry calls upon to undertake the solemn duty, responsibly and channel the message of God with Clarity and Conviction to the assembly.

Planner : Based on the number of lectors active for a particular mass the reading is allotted to a lector once every month based on the schedule rotations. St. Joseph Parish, Mira Road is proud to have 130 dedicated lectors.

Benefits: Being a lector is a very rewarding experience as it helps an individual to grow in confidence.
Having the chance to stand behind the microphone and in front of a congregation challenges to project oneself audibly, thus providing tremendous practice for public speaking. Furthermore, you can come to grow closer with the Lord and deepen your faith as a lector by preparing for the readings before the mass and sharing the Holy Word with the congregation during the liturgy. A lector seizes the wonderful opportunity to learn, live and appreciate the sacred scripture during the training and preparations offered by the ministry.

PARISH BIBLE CELL

The Parish Bible Cell started in the year 2005. It was initiated by Fr. Rudolf and Father Alvito A Two Year Bible study of the Old and New Testament, every first, third and fifth Sunday of the month.

Teacher,s who have done the Ministry of the Word and our Parish Fathers take classes. Our Spiritual Director for Bible Cell is Fr. Nelson Cardozo.

Every year we have around twenty-five students joining us. At present we have 60 students. At the end of completing two years, they are given certificates. They share their experiences and testimonies, what the two years have done in their lives and how they are spiritually motivated to go to be witnesses of God’s love.

A taste of the Word of God wherein they experience the Love of God in Jesus, the Way, the Truth and the Life. The students are spirit filled, their prayer life grows, they experience the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, knowing that he is the living God.

Bible Sunday is celebrated with the Eucharist, animated by Bible cell members. After the Eucharist Bible Cell members stand outside the church with a box of bible verses and chocolates, all those who answer get a chocolate. We see the joy in people,s faces. This day is followed by a celebration of all past and present students. A lovely fellowship.

Our students feel that they are chosen by God to be here and this time well spent in understanding the Word of God.

In the words of St. Augustine….
To search for God is a challenging human adventure, to find God is the noblest human achievement, to fall in love with God is life’s highest fulfilment.

Prison Ministry is a dedicated voluntary service focused on the renewal and rehabilitation of Prisoners. Our mission is to provide individuals with a renewed chance to build a better life upon their release.

Each week, our volunteers visit prisons and observation homes in Dongri, Byculla, Thane, and Arthur Road. We conduct a variety of regular classes aimed at empowering the inmates and children, including academic subjects, beautification, etiquette, sports, computer skills, music, arts and crafts, and culinary training.

These programs are designed to equip them with essential skills for reintegration into society. Additionally, we organize health camps offering dental, hearing, and gynaecological services to address the medical needs of the children. We also celebrate significant occasions such as Diwali and Christmas, bringing joy and a sense of normalcy to their lives.

Through these initiatives, we strive to reform Prisoners and provide them with the tools for a brighter and more promising future.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program is oriented towards accompanying those adults and adolescents searching and inquiring about the Catholic way of life. The RCIA process, usually of a year-long duration, follows the flow of the Liturgical calendar.

The initiation program usually starts in June and reaches its completion in a single celebration of the three Sacraments of Initiation-Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. The Catechumen is a person who has never been baptised and who wishes to become a Catholic, receives these three Sacraments during the Easter Vigil. Our parish is blessed to have the RCIA program in Hindi and English, with catechesis every Saturday from 7p.m. to 9 p.m.

A group of dedicated catechists instructs the catechumens in the tenets, beliefs, obligations and practices of the Catholic Faith, and insist on regular attendance during instruction.
